The latest buzz in the market is LED-TV and if you are in a market you may be told that the LED TV's are the best and you may end up buying LED TV. But the reality is you would have bought same LCD TV.
How!?
There is nothing called LED TV in home use flat panels. It is actually LED backlight TV. That is the correct word one has to use for LED TV. The difference between the current LCD-TV and LED-TV technology is both are basically LCD TV, but the so called LCD TV is actually LCD TV with CCFL*(CFL) back light and LED-TV is also LCD-TV but uses LED^ as backlight.
So, if we go in the lines of the current communication by many TV brands, if LCD TV with LED backlight is called LED-TV then LCD-TV with CFL backlight has to be called CFL-TV!.
There are many benefits in LED TV it makes current Flat panels even more thinner, consumes less power and has longer life compared to CFL-LCD TV. However LED -LCD TV can't be consided completely better than CFL LCDTV, LED-LCD TV still has some drawbacks compared to CFL-LCD TV.
Since both are LCD TV but with different light source, the correct way of identifying is
1) LCD-TV = LCD with CFL backlight (for so called LCD-TV) and
2) LED-TV = LCD with LED backlight (for so called LED TV).
Or in generic form it should be CFL-TV and LED-TV, this way the customer has more accurate information of what he is buying.
*CCFL=Cold cathode flurosence light, similar to the Tube light used at home.
^LED=Light Emitting Diode, similar to the the red light which glows on putting your TV on standby.
